With Spooky season right around the corner, there’s no better time to talk about Monster Fluxx. Fluxx is a game with many different themes, so if you aren’t into Monsters, there are plenty of other versions to choose from.
In Fluxx the rules are added as you go, making this one extremely easy to get to the table and teach. The games are short and simple, so it’s great for non gamers. With a constantly changing end goal nobody is ever really in the lead. There’s a bit of luck and take that in the game.
For replay-ability, I bring this version out in October and then probably won’t see it again until next year. If you are looking for a take that game with a bit more replay, I’d go with Doomlings or Here to Slay, they have a lot more cards and interesting things happening. However, despite that there are enough versions available to keep you coming back to Fluxx. I am eyeing up a couple different themes myself.
Fluxx is really affordable and that is a big deal these days. The deck of cards is nice, I like the artwork, everything is clearly laid out and easy to read. It is a lot less complicated than other games and that will appeal to a lot of people. It comes in a small box and I wish there were more cards but it is easy to pack in a purse and play anywhere. If you are looking for a game on the go this is a good option.
Monster Flux was designed by Andrew Looney and published by Looney Games. Fluxx is a 2 to 6 player game for ages 8 and up. It takes between 5 to 20 minutes to play.
Fluxx starts with a couple rules. As the game goes on more rules and win conditions will be added and changed.
Set Up

Place the basic card in the centre of the table. Shuffle and deal three cards to each player. Place the deck face down where everyone can reach it.
Types of Cards

New Rule Cards – Once placed, a new rule will take effect immediately. If a new rule contradicts a rule in play the first rule will be discarded.

Keeper Cards – Keepers are cards you need to win. Play them by placing them face up in front of you.

Goal Cards – Play a goal card by placing it face up in the centre of the table. A new goal card will replace the old one. This is the win condition for the game.

Action Cards – Action cards are single used cards, follow the instruction and discard.
How to Play
To play, draw a card and play a card. From there you are just going to follow the writing on the cards. Cards will give you the win condition, new rules, hand limits and more. The game is always changing.
How to Win
The first person to meet the conditions wins. Keepers need to be in play in front of you to win.
There’s not a lot more to add, the game sort presents itself as you play. If you up for a game that constantly changes, Fluxx may be the choice for you.
