Pickles to Penguins is about making connections between items that are unrelated. The connections need to be made as quick as possible to beat your opponents, making the game pretty tense. You are trying to get rid of all your cards as soon as possible.
There’s a creativity in coming up with the connections. For example, what do marbles and tacos have in common? Feel free to dispute other players connections when they seem like a bit of a stretch.
The pictures on the cards make the game pretty kid friendly and I think this makes a great party game for the family. Also, kids tend to love really fast paced games like this, it is lightweight you can definitely play a few rounds fairly quickly. There is a lot of variety with the cards, they are also double sided to give you twice as many options. It’s definitely worth checking out for your next family game night.
Pickes to Penguins was published by Outset Media. It is for 2 to 4 players aged 6 and up.
Contents
500 two sided cards
Setup
Shuffle and deal 25 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards on the table as a draw pile.

How To Play
Each player will place five cards out in front of them in a row. When everyone is ready, turn over the top two cards from the draw pile and place them side by side on the table. The dealer says go and players will at the same time place cards from their own deck on top of one of the two cards in the centre. To place a card you must say out loud the connection of their card and the card they are placing it on. Saying the connection should be a full sentence that contains both names of the items. The cards are all two sided, you can use either side.
For example if you have a chicken card and an egg card you could say “chickens lay eggs”.
Only one card can be played at a time. As players use a card from the five in front of them, they will be replaced with cards from their personal deck.
If players get stuck, two new cards can be drawn.
If a played card is challenged, play stops and the other players will decide if the connection counts or if there’s a penalty. For a penalty they will be dealt 5 cards to add to their deck.
The same connection cannot be used twice and you cannot say both items start with the same letter or have the same sylables.
A wild card can be used right away and once placed will automatically link to a card on either pile. The card placed on top of the wild card will also link without an association.
End of Game
First player to use all their cards wins.
Pickles to Penguins is a quick and easy game the whole family will enjoy.
