This tiny game packs a big punch. Decktective is an investigation game for 1 to 6 players aged 12 and up and takes about an hour play. Personally, I feel like 6 players would be way too many, I’d prefer playing solo or with 2 players.
As for the gameplay, I can’t really say much without giving anything away. Basically this is a deck of cards, you start at card one and follow the instructions as you go. Like Exit or Unlocked this is a one time play game, however you can reset the deck when you are done and pass it on to someone else.
What I liked about this was the story you had to follow. There was a bunch of information presented to you. It’s up to you to decide what’s important and what isn’t, which is similar in style of game play to Chronicles of Crime. There aren’t any puzzles like you’d see in an escape room, it’s 100% investigation.
The game components are simple so when you are done it’s easy to mail off to someone else or take it with you. Unlike Unlocked, you don’t need an app so there’s no technology you have to worry about, you just open the cards are good to go.
If you are looking for a one off game and you like investigating, this was really fun and it seemed simple but there were a lot of small details to pay attention to. Since it’s a one time only game it obviously won’t stay in my collection but I will definitely pass this along to friends let them give it a try.
