You Can’t Say Umm

You Can’t Say Umm is a party game that challenges you to do the impossible and not say Umm when giving clues. If that isn’t enough of a challenge, new rules will be added throughout the game.

I really like this one. It’s a great length and doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. The components are good, the bell is great and I’m pretty excited it doesn’t need batteries.

The rule cards are an amazing addition to the game and set it apart from other similar word games. It adds more difficulty as the game progresses and keeps things interesting. Your team picks the rules for the other team, some are quite tough and some are just funny. The rule deck will make each play unique as you mix and match the rules. It’s hard to keep these types of party games fresh but the rule deck really ups the replay ability.

You Can’t Say Umm is a party game published by Big Potato Games. It is a 4 to 10 player game, ages 10 and up and takes about 20 minutes to play.

Contents

  • 165 Cards
  • 2 Player Pieces
  • 1 Bell
  • 1 Timer
  • 1 Board
  • 1 Rule Book

Set Up

Create two teams and pick a colour for the board. Each team draws six rule cards and looks at them. You will choose three to pass to the other team and put the rest back in the box. Place the rule cards face down next to each of the yellow squares.

Place out the bell, timer and A and B decks easily in reach.

How to Play

One team will go first, they will pick one person to be the describer for the round. The describer will pick a card from the A and B decks. When the timer starts they will start to describe the combination to their team one word at a time, without saying the words on the cards. The other team will watch the timer and bell. If the describer messes up by saying um or ahh the other team will ring the bell and moves up one space on the board. The guessing team will get move ahead one on the board for every combination they get correct.

Card examples

Once a team reaches one of the yellow squares they will activate a rule card for their team. Turn over the card and now that is a new rule you will have to follow.

Rule Cards

Once a team reaches the last yellow square, they activate the third rule and no one on the team is allowed to say um as well.

The first team to the end of the board wins.

This is a great ice breaker I would recommend for any party.
